10 Benefits of Broccoli - Learn the Amazing Health Qualities of Broccoli By Sean N Burrows
We've all been told that eating our broccoli is healthy, but why does it have such a bad reputation in terms of taste? How come so many people despise eating it? For the longest time I wouldn't touch broccoli either, but in the years of studying health, I've learned just how important broccoli is.
I wanted to include more broccoli into my diet, and I wanted to make it something I desired and enjoyed, rather than something I had to force myself to eat.
The key is learning and being creative with ways you prepare it. Traditionally, people steam or boil broccoli. This completely takes away the flavor and makes it very bland, which makes it easy to see why so many children hate eating it.
There are many more creative ways to add broccoli into your foods such as; adding it to fresh salads, adding it on pizza, sautéing it with mushrooms, olive oil, and lots of Italian spices. Try and get creative and find new ways to include broccoli in your meals without making it something scary.
My favorite method is taking it in powder form, in conjunction with many other healthy herbs and vegetables. You can mix the powder into some fresh fruit juice which makes it much more enjoyable to drink.
Here are 10 benefits of Broccoli to help give some motivation!
1) Very high amounts of Vitamin C and Vitamin A
2) Aids in Food Absorption
3) Loaded with Folic Acid
4) High in Potassium and Fiber
5) Prevents and Fights Cancer
6) High in Calcium
7) Aids and Prevents Alzheimer's Disease, Diabetes, Arthritis, Heart Disease
8) Slows and Reverses Aging
9) Aids the Liver

The Liver
A lot of my studies have been on the liver, and just how important they are to our bodies and good health. Our livers are responsible for so much that we absolutely must become more aware of how to keep it healthy. Our livers break down all our foods, cleanses the toxins in our bodies, processes all of our sensory input, and is our heat-furnace. It's the only organ in the body that can regenerate.
Our livers are extremely abused in our society, and broccoli can play an important role in helping to heal our livers.

Pistachios Are Good For Your Health
By Babak Vaziri |
Pistachios are one of the oldest of all flowering nut trees. We humans have been consuming pistachios for thousands of years. The pistachio tree grows best in hot and dry climates and can be found growing in abundance in the Middle East and the Mediterranean. Pistachios are a very healthy snack food choice as they supply essential nutrients to the body, help to stabilize blood sugar levels and are satisfying. They alleviate hunger while providing energy to the body.
The pistachio nut is naturally free from cholesterol and trans-fats and is low in calories. The nutrients in a pistachio nut are magnesium, phosphorus, thiamin, vitamin B6, copper, potassium, manganese and fiber. They are high in essential polyphenol antioxidants, making them an ideal snack to nibble on between meals. The pistachio contains 'good' fat, which is fat that helps you feel full longer. Pistachios are dry roasted also, meaning that they are naturally free of trans-fats. Pistachios are a great choice for diabetics because they are naturally low in carbohydrates and are rich in monounsaturated fatty acids. They help keep blood sugar and insulin levels in check, which in turn reduce the risks of heart disease.
Pistachios contain as much vitamin B6 as beef liver which we all know is considered an especially rich source of vitamin B6. So, per serving, pistachios provide twenty percent of the daily recommended dosage. Many of us do not take in sufficient amounts of B6. Probably one of the greatest benefits of consuming pistachios is that eating them could keep heart disease at bay. It seems that they do indeed lower cholesterol which in turn keeps the arteries healthy. The nuts are nutrient rich, which reduce the hardening of the arteries. We are all aware that hardening in the arteries is one of the main causes of strokes and heart attacks.
During a study in the United States, a group of people supplemented their low-fat diets withpistachios. A few of them ate 1.5 ounces daily while others consumed twice that much, either as a snack or as a part of a meal. The third group did not consume any pistachios.
In just a month's time, the cholesterol levels dropped significantly amongst the pistachio eaters. This study proved that by consuming only three ounces of the nut a day can cut cholesterol levels by over eight percent and LDL or 'bad' cholesterol by over eleven percent.
The anti-oxidant that is in pistachios is called letein and this anti-oxidant is found in brightly colored fruits and leafy, green vegetables. Letein prevents cholesterol from blocking arteries. It is recommended that people, who eat pistachios on a regular basis, choose the un-salted variety over the salted, because eating too much salt raises blood pressure.
Most of us love to snack between meals and in the evenings. By choosing pistachios over potato or nacho chips for example, we are making a healthy choice, improving our overall health and should feel healthier for making a better snack choice. The pistachio nut is good for you and your heart.

Traditional Christmas Cake Ideas
by Lavender Stewart
When people think of Christmas cakes, they often think of fruit cakes. The thick cake with bits of fruit and nut and is sometimes aged with good brandy just screams Christmas. Many people look forward to it each year. Others, however, after years of eating the same cake, begin looking for something else, for different Christmas cake ideas.
If you are someone who is looking for some Christmas cake ideas, but don't exactly want to break the tradition and spirit of the season, then consider Stollen! It's a great cake of German origins and it is eaten during the holidays. Bread-like and fruit-cake like at the same time, it can be seen as a variation to what you've enjoyed year after year!
To make Stollen, you will need the following:
3 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
1 cups raisins
1 cups almonds (ground)
1 cups cream cheese
1 cup candied orange peel (chopped)
2/3 cup butter (cold)
cup icing sugar
cup sugar
cup currants
cup butter (melted)
9g vanilla sugar
8g baking powder
5 drops lemon flavoring
4 drops almond flavoring
1 bottle rum flavoring
2 eggs
1 cups raisins
1 cups almonds (ground)
1 cups cream cheese
1 cup candied orange peel (chopped)
2/3 cup butter (cold)
cup icing sugar
cup sugar
cup currants
cup butter (melted)
9g vanilla sugar
8g baking powder
5 drops lemon flavoring
4 drops almond flavoring
1 bottle rum flavoring
2 eggs
Instructions:
1) Grease a 15€ by 10€ jelly roll pan with some butter.
2) In a large bowl, sift all your dry ingredients, except the whole fruit and nuts, together till you get an even consistency and each of the ingredients are well blended.
3) Add the flavoring and the eggs, and knead with your hands. Try adding a bit the wet ingredients a little at a time, making sure that you don't flood the dry ingredients. This will also help you control the mixture. Start with the eggs and drops of flavorings before moving on to the rum flavoring.
4) Take the cold butter and cream cheese and begin mixing it in with the dry ingredients. You can also use an electric mixer for this, but your hands are often better. What you want is a dough-like consistency. Once this is smooth, begin adding the nuts and fruit into your dough, kneading it till you feel there is a more or less even distribution
5) Put your dough into the jelly roll pan.
6) Bake in an oven that's been preheated to 160C for an hour.
7) As soon as it is out of the oven, brush the cake with melted butter and sift icing sugar on top.

8) You can store the cake in the refrigerator, but it is best served fresh from the oven. If this is not an option, simply heat up each slice before serving.
Other traditional Christmas cake ideas include rhum cake or butter cake topped with confectionary sugar. One of the great things about being able to bake is that during the holidays, you can make your presents to people! Good cakes are always appreciated, and it's one of those gifts you are sure will be used!
